Examples of hazards

Please note that everyone is responsible for reporting grievances!

Please point out to person(s) that their actions can lead to injuries, health problems and accidents. If in doubt, contact your supervisor directly and describe the situation. They are obliged to take care of occupational health and safety!

Below you will find examples from everyday life where there are obvious dangers:

Escape staircase

Here is an example of an escape staircase. This is a staircase that forms the end of the second escape route for a lecture hall.

Due to the crumbling steps, there is a considerable risk that people fleeing will trip here. Worse still, if one of the first people falls here and the following people fall over the person lying on the stairs!

Scaffolding

Scaffolding is a suitable means of accessing parts of buildings that are difficult to reach. However, some basic safety aspects should always be taken into account. In the following example, not only a suitable ladder was forgotten.

As the ladder was not long enough, it was extended with the help of another ladder.

The ladder should also be secured differently.

The specialist company did not install the parapets required by law.

Snow avalanche

Another example of everyday dangers for everyone:

Here, when the building was constructed, a snow guard was forgotten to be fitted to the roof to prevent an avalanche from coming off the roof in an uncontrolled manner.

If this mass of snow had hit a person, injury would have been inevitable.

Office workstation

There are also many hidden sources of danger in the office, e.g. multiple sockets. Here, the entire power supply is drawn from a multiple socket.

On the one hand, the cables can cause tripping hazards, which could result in stumbling and unconsciousness in the event of a fire alarm. It is then no longer possible to escape from the room.

However, it could also be that the total current exceeds the permissible load of the first multiple socket and causes its cable to burn. Due to the many plastics in the office furniture, a fire could develop quite quickly.

Glass and building cleaning

Another example is the lack of fall protection when cleaning windows.
