Information for pregnant women / nursing mothers

Expectant or breastfeeding mothers and their unborn or newborn child are particularly vulnerable.

As an employer, TU Clausthal is obliged to provide this protection.

It is important that you familiarize yourself with the following aspects so that we can protect you and your unborn child in the best possible way from dangers associated with your workplace:

1. reporting a pregnancy

Your unborn child is particularly vulnerable in the early stages of pregnancy. We therefore recommend that you report the pregnancy to your line manager and your HR officer as soon as possible. Pregnant students should contact the Central Student Advisory Service.

You can notify the Human Resources Department as follows

  • in person after contacting your HR officer by telephone. Please bring your maternity pass with you to the appointment.
  • by e-mail to the HR officer, sending a copy of your maternity pass (the page with the calculated date of birth).

You can find your HR officer and contact details here.

2. maternity protection period and pregnancy folder

The HR officer calculates the maternity protection period based on the calculated date of birth and notes the start and end of the maternity protection period in the cover letter for the pregnant woman, which is handed out together with the pregnancy folder.

The pregnancy folder provides you with lots of important and useful information for the time before and after the birth of your child.

3. risk assessment

Your line manager will also receive a letter from the HR department informing them of your pregnancy. A risk assessment must be drawn up as soon as you become aware of your pregnancy, ideally together with you. The risk assessment will take a close look at your workplace and your job in order to take any necessary measures to protect your unborn child. It may therefore be necessary that you are no longer allowed to carry out certain activities during pregnancy and then during the breastfeeding period.

Your line manager will discuss the risk assessment and the resulting measures with you.
